In hindsight, maybe having that overfilling Thanksgiving dinner before watching any of these isn’t the best idea. But for those with an iron stomach (or will), who are willing to venture into the weird, the grotesque, and the gory and silly, take a look at our hidden holiday finds. While impossible to match the genocidal horrors that gave birth to this holiday and continue to reverberate to this day, these Thanksgiving horror flicks certainly try.

The Halloween season is usually a time to treat yourself to horror classics and childhood favorites, but for those itching for something new and fresh that can still satisfy the need for blood, guts, and good old fashioned scares, we’ve compiled a list of the best new horror flicks to come out this year. Almost all of them are entirely original stories and range from monsters to psychological nightmares to serial killers to a deadly pair of jeans. Settle in, turn out the lights, and prepare for some new school thrills that may just become part of your yearly Halloween traditions.

We’ve gone through every Blumhouse Productions project to determine the best of the best. While the company is obviously best known for horror and thus films in that genre will dominate the list, we’ve also included some other equally as thrilling choices as well.

We narrowed down the numerous short films to the top ten, which include everything from mad scientists to zombies to cults and everything in between. The two franchises launched a new wave of horror films and still hold plenty of influence today, from their atmospheres to their clever scare sequences.

The franchise is now eight films deep with more on the way, and it’s gone through a variety of ups and downs in terms of quality, so we ranked every entry from worst to best, including the latest, The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It.

The Saw movies have been a long and winding journey of violence and depravity for over sixteen years now, and we ranked the series from the worst to the best.
