Read MoreI searched through the libraries of several streaming services to find out who was delivering quality holiday thrills and mayhem hidden beneath the usual yuletide cheesiness, and the findings were surprisingly great. The following movies include a couple of well-established classics, some more modern and frightening offerings, and plenty of original horrors that deserve a watch. Here’s plenty of proof that you can conjure up scares no matter what time of year it is.
Read MoreIn hindsight, maybe having that overfilling Thanksgiving dinner before watching any of these isn’t the best idea. But for those with an iron stomach (or will), who are willing to venture into the weird, the grotesque, and the gory and silly, take a look at our hidden holiday finds. Read MoreMidnight Mass is a classic concoction of religious fervor and the ways it naturally spills over into horror; how faith can heal and comfort but also just as easily be used as a weapon, a justification of terrible deeds in the name of a higher power.
Read MoreJames Wan brought old-school style scares and tales of spirits and haunted houses back to Hollywood in the early 2010s with The Conjuring and Insidious. The two franchises launched a new wave of horror films and still hold plenty of influence today, from their atmospheres to their clever scare sequences.
The Conjuring kicked off not only its own pair of sequels but a number of spinoffs as well, which explore the origins of some of the demonic entities from the main films.
